Stop excessive blushing with help from NLP/Hypnotherapy

You Can Stop Excessive Blushing With NLP and Hypnotherapy

Here it comes again.  That hot, flushed feeling in your cheeks, the knowledge that your facing is turning a bright shade of pink or red.  Blushing is a normal physiological response that can take on a “life of its own” when your mind becomes anxious about it.  This leads to even more blushing, and so the cycle continues.  It only continues, however, until you learn how to break the cycle using conscious thoughts and alternative behaviours.

The Excessive Blushing Cycle

The physiological part of the blushing cycle is quite straightforward.  Anxiety of some kind triggers the physical response; when the anxiety goes away, the blushing goes away.  With excessive blushing, however, your brain begins to associate anxiety and blushing in a negative pattern. The more anxious you feel, the more you blush, and the more you blush, the more anxious you feel.  It’s a vicious circle that is often situational, but is just as likely to have no apparent cause.  It simply becomes a habit, fuelled by your mind’s thoughts and feelings.  To break the habit you must learn to change this pattern and teach your brain to let go of anxiety.

Worries About Blushing

When you worry about excessive blushing, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts.  It becomes a conditioned reflex, one that your mind has taught your body to exhibit whenever anxiety and fear are present.  Letting go of these worries is the key to resolving excess blushing.

Now, this may sound difficult but it’s really not that hard.  You simply need to learn the correct techniques for avoiding the anxious thoughts that cause the blushing.  Some well-meaning person may have told you to “just stop thinking about it”, so you focus on not thinking about blushing.  The effect of that is just the opposite of what you want.  Here’s an example:  don’t think about red monkeys.  Don’t think about them swinging through trees, eating popcorn, and laughing hysterically.  So how is it working for you so far?  Are you not thinking about red monkeys yet?

That’s why “just stop thinking about it” doesn’t work.

Using NLP And Hypnotherapy To Regain Control

NLP works to literally re-train your mind to step away from a negative thought and step toward a positive thought.  You learn how to focus on a thought that is useful to you rather than destructive to you.  Additionally, we use specific hypnotherapy methods to effectively re-condition your mind and re-build your inner resources.

The process works because your practitioner listens to you very carefully, taking the time to understand the details of how you experience blushing.  You won’t spend time delving into past experiences or problems because they are not part of the solution.  Rather, you spend time establishing a new pattern of thought which in turn establishes a new pattern of physiological response.

How Long With Treatment Take?

Most of our clients experience substantial change in two or three one-hour sessions.  As with many other anxiety-related issues, NLP and hypnotherapy work very well to get rid of problems with excessive blushing.
